WHAT SHOULD MEN KNOW ABOUT SCALP MICRO-PIGMENTATION?

Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) for men is rapidly becoming the go-to solution for hair loss, offering a natural, non-surgical alternative to traditional options like wigs and hair transplants.

This advanced procedure uses specialised pigments and precise techniques to replicate the look of a full head of shaved hair. In this blog, we’ll explore everything men should know about SMP, including how it works, and why more men are choosing it over other hair restoration methods.

What Is Scalp Micro-Pigmentation?

Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) for men is an advanced, non-surgical procedure, where a process similar to cosmetic tattoo is used to create the look of a full head of shaved hair. Unlike traditional tattoo procedures, SMP for men uses specialised, natural pigments specifically designed for the scalp. This prevents the pigmentation from changing colour, with the pigments remaining closely matched to your natural hair tones.

Our highly skilled technicians utilise ultra-thin needles to precisely place the pigments just below the epidermis, using varying penetration depths, pattern distribution and angles. In SMP for men, the technician will also select specific pigments to create a unique blend that will match perfectly with your natural hair colour delivering seamless and natural results.

SMP for men is an incredible, transformational and affordable treatment that gives immediate results and restores confidence in men who are suffering from hair loss.

How Long Does The SMP Treatment Take?

The duration of the Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) treatment can vary based on individual needs and the extent of coverage required. On average, each treatment session lasts between 1 to 3 hours. Most clients will need 2 to 3 sessions to achieve the desired results, with each session building upon the previous one to create a natural and realistic appearance. The exact number of sessions and the total time required will be determined during your initial consultation, where our skilled technicians will assess your specific needs and develop a personalised treatment plan.

How Long Do SMP Results Last?

Because every individual is unique, results and longevity of treatment can vary so we can not give a definite answer to this question. The two main factors responsible for pigment fading are the clients collagen microstructure, and the clients immune response - both unique to the individual. However, to ensure your results last as long as possible we advise all our clients to protect their head in the sun, as sunburn can fade the pigments. To maintain your Scalp Micro-Pigmentation you may require a touch-up up once every 2-3 years. You will be glad to know that if a touch-up is needed, it would be charged at an hourly rate, you don't pay the initial treatment rate.

Why Choose An SMP Treatment?

There are a variety of reasons you might choose a Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) treatment. For men who are conscious about the way their hair looks, SMP is a natural choice. It provides immediate results, at an affordable price, without the need for surgery.

SMP treatments for men are safe, almost pain-free and do not leave unsightly scars, unlike some hair loss procedures which quite often leave a person with more anxiety and lower confidence than they started with.

Is SMP Only For Balding People Or Is It Suitable For People Wanting To Improve Their Hairline?

SMP for men is a treatment that is suitable for varying degrees of hair loss and does not in any way affect the natural hair follicles. This means that there is no risk to anyone wishing to just compliment the hairline they already have.  Whether you require a full scalp treatment or partial treatment to strengthen and define your existing hairline, SMP is the perfect solution for you.

Male SMP - Restore Hairline

How Does Scalp Micro-pigmentation (SMP) differ from Traditional Tattoos?

Many men are choosing Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) over traditional tattoos for hair restoration due to the numerous advantages that SMP offers. Here are some key reasons why SMP is becoming the preferred option:

  • The SMP procedure is non-surgical and leaves no scarring
  • SMP uses natural pigmentation as opposed to permanent ink
  • The SMP treatment will not fade to blue or spread over time
  • SMP Pigments used are not applied as deeply beneath the skin
  • Pigments used for SMP are biodegradable
  • SMP is much less painful than traditional tattooing
  • SMP pigments are specifically designed for the scalp

Why Is SMP Replacing Wigs?

Until more recently, the only solutions for hair loss in men were wigs (hair systems or toupees) and costly hair transplants, both of these options have significant drawbacks that might not be appealing to all men. A lot of men found that the sudden and noticeable change when wearing a wig would lead to fear of ridicule and loss of identity therefore making this option far more undesirable for men experiencing hair loss. Additionally, wigs comes with the restrictions of avoiding certain activities to prevent damage or embarrassment.

Not to mention, those who often wear wigs experience discomfort from the adhesives used to keep the wig in place leading to irritation, excess heat and itching. With all of the above limitations, wigs are far less appealing and less viable for a long-term solution for hair loss.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) for men offers a more natural, low-maintenance and confidence-boosting alternative.

Why Is SMP a Better Option Than Hair Transplants?

Unlike SMP, Hair Transplants are an invasive surgical procedure with strict suitability criteria and many external factors such as smoking and drinking can affect the success of the surgery. Despite this, there’s nothing to guarantee hair transplant success even under ideal conditions. It’s important to note, hair transplants can fail leading to pain, wasted time and money.

The process to restored hairline and confidence is long, after surgery transplanted hairs fall out due to “shock loss” and new growth can take months to reappear. Hair transplants also carry the risk of unsightly scarring and often the need for SMP to conceal the damage caused.

For those who are prepared to accept the associated risks and make the necessary lifestyle changes, there is then the matter of cost.  Depending on the amount of grafts required, someone suffering from severe male pattern baldness could end up paying thousands per transplant and need multiple transplants, and still not even be guaranteed to achieve the desired results as having enough donor hair becomes a factor. For many people this is just not an affordable solution.

In contrast, Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) for men is a non-invasive, non-surgical and affordable treatment with immediate results making it an ideal solution for hair loss.

Is The SMP Procedure Painful?

The SMP procedure for men is usually described as fairly mild, with most people rating the pain level as a 2-5 on a 1-10 scale. Certain areas of the head can be more sensitive, maybe a 3-6, but overall most clients don't find the pain to be a problem at all.

How Much Does SMP Cost?

The cost of Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) for men varies depending on the extent of treatment needed to achieve your desired results.

During your consultation, our technicians will assess your specific needs, including the number of sessions required, and provide you with a personalised treatment plan.

Although we understand price is important to people, we strongly advise that people don't make price the main factor in choosing where to get their SMP. Many people have had their SMP done for a cheap price and have later severely regretted it. Experience, skill level, reputation and proven results are the things that we advise people to make their decision on to ensure they get the result they really want.

Typically, treatment packages range from £600 to £2,000.*
